Our founder was one of those people. One day he walked into his day-planner company's store at the big mall, genuinely excited to upgrade his beloved paper system to a day planner app.

The shock was followed by a realization: this huge corporation wasn't really in the day-planner business for its customers — it was in the paper business for its shareholders, selling tons of refill pages every year. (Nothing against paper. Paper is awesome.) But a customer stood in their store, asking to follow them into the future, and the future wasn't for sale.
That moment became a conviction: a company should exist for the benefit of its customers as much as for its owners.
